Real Madrid manager Santiago Solari enjoyed Marco Asensio’s lively display in their 1-0 La Liga win against Rayo Vallecano on Saturday
Karim Benzema’s early first-half goal proved to be the difference as Real scrapped past 19th-place Rayo with a narrow 1-0 victory.
Although a large part of the credit went to goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois, who produced a superb double save in the dying moments of the game, after Asensio had squandered two good scoring opportunities.
But Solari insists he had no issues whatsoever with Asensio’s performance.
“He had a very lively game,” said Solari on the club website.
“He was keen to get on the scoresheet and moved well in attack, and defensively as well.
“That’s the Asensio we all want to see. I really enjoyed his performance, he has to keep going because the goals will come for him”.
“We’ll try and get more goals. We had far more chances tonight than we did at Huesca, where we won 1-0 and managed to hold on to our lead.
“Our performance today meant that Rayo weren’t allowed to create any chances, whilst we fashioned a hatful.
“We should have won by a bigger margin today. The goals will come for us in another game and we’ll keep plugging away”.
Real will next travel to the United Arab Emirates for Wednesday’s Club World Cup semi-final against Kashima Antlers
