While David de Gea has taken a lot of time to commit his future to Manchester United, the manager is hopeful that the Spaniard will do that soon.
David de Gea has been linked with a move away from Old Trafford for at least two years now. However, for some reason or another, be it a faulty fax machine or something else, the Spaniard has stayed put.
However, it appears that the former Atletico man had started questioning how competitive the club wants to be in the coming days. Indeed, with the club struggling for carving out its own identity, De Gea believes that a new challenge is what suits him.
Initially, it was Real Madrid who were keen on signing him. But with the arrival of Thibaut Courtois, that track has gone cold. PSG are still looking for a world-class shot-stopper but de Gea might not be on top of their wishlist.
However, despite all that, it has been reported that de Gea is keen on signing a contract extension and put rumors of a departure to bed.
And Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is hopeful that his number 1 will agree on another contract offer which is going to be the club’s last offer. With just one year left on his contract, Ed Woodward doesn’t want to be pushed into a corner but doesn’t want to lose his star player on free either.
And Solskjaer says that he is hopeful that de Gea signs a new contract.
“Hopefully we can agree a new contract with David,” he said, according to Goal.com.
“That will be up to the club and David to announce.”
Manchester United play Leeds on Wednesday and the manager is already thinking about the new season. The former Norway international says that every player is expected to give their best for the club.
“The day we start the league, I’m sure everyone who’s here will give absolutely everything for Man United,” he said.
