A player of Mamelodi Sundowns has reportedly been arrested for speeding.

An unnamed Masandawana player has been arrested over the weekend for reckless driving and over-speeding.

Reports in the South African media suggests a 32-year-old Mamelodi Sundowns player was on his way to the Roodepoort from Centurion where his car was pulled over by the Gauteng Traffic Police along the N1 in the midland.

The alleged culprit was believed to have clocked 180 km/h in a 120 km/h zone. The player was arrested and taken to the Midrand Police Station before he was granted bail at R1500.

The player in question was amongst the 30 motorists believed to have been clamped upon by the Gauteng Police Force who decided to take action against over-speeding during the weekend.

The Gauteng community safety spokesperson Ofentse Morwane confirmed this to reporters on Monday.

“He claimed to have been rushing back home in Roodepoort after dropping off a friend at Centurion,” Morwane said, according to Goal

“He was arrested on the spot and charged with over-speeding after going above the 120 km/h limit.”

Meanwhile, the unnamed player of Sundowns is expected to appear before a magistrate court soon, although the exact date has not been revealed.

Mamelodi Sundowns are expected to begin their PSL campaign against Kaiser Chiefs this weekend.
