The Inter Milan manager was expecting both players to be called for the national team after delivering good performances in the Serie A.
Mauro Icardi and Lautaro Martinez received calls for the Argentina national team to take part in the 2019 Copa America to be played in Brazil this summer.
And for Internazionale Milan manager Luciano Spalletti, those calls were expected after the goof performances both footballers have delivered in the Italian Lega Serie A.
“I expected that, because Lautaro had a good season at a club like Inter, which certainly gives a player more confidence and a higher profile,” Spalletti told Football Italia.
“He absorbed everything he learned this year and has become an even stronger player.”
“He belongs at a big club because of his character and mental strength,” the coach continued.
“He doesn’t let himself be limited by the opponent, the context or the current moment.”
The Nerazzurri boss was also happy after his team has been released from the Settlement Agreement, which means they are now free from Financial Fair Play restrictions.
“The Settlement Agreement had limited us to a degree. We’ve got to get back on the Champions League bus, as millions of Inter fans deserve it,” he said.
“However, third place is not to be taken for granted and we must remain focused on getting the result we need against Napoli.”
