Steve McManaman insists it will be in the best of interests for Raheem Sterling to continue playing for Manchester City.

Man City’s proposed punishment of dismissal from European football for the next two seasons is already starting to show its ill effects as a handful of their players are being linked with a transfer away.

One of them is forward Raheem Sterling.

The England international is believed to be on the summer wishlist of Real Madrid. Sterling himself acknowledged the rumors saying he is always ‘open to new challenges’.

But Steve McManaman does not see any reason as to why the 25-year old should switch camps. The former Man City winger also insisted that Pep Guardiola’s side have the upper hand over Real Madrid right now.

“Manchester City at the moment are a better side than Real Madrid. So, Raheem is already at the best club for him at this moment in time,” McManaman said, speaking to HorseRacing.net.

“We never know what’s going to happen in two or three years. When Spanish sides have a lull to a certain extent, then they go ahead and just smash the transfer market.

“The best sides in Europe at the moment are Liverpool and Manchester City.”
