Steven Gerrard is looking to secure Rangers’ eighth signing of the season in the coming days as the Scottish giants look to strengthen the squad.
Rangers will be completing another signing in the next few days according to manager Steven Gerrard.
The Glasgow giants have already signed the likes of Steven Davis, Joe Aribo, Jake Hastie, Jordan Jones and Greg Steward this summer. All these players arrived as free agents and Steven Gerard is keen on adding more players to his stable.
Highly rated Liverpool winger Sheyi Ojo also joined on a loan deal while George Edmundson may also join from Oldham.
Defense was the main area of concern last season and Steven Gerrard wants to ensure that the backline is catered for next season.
And according to Daily Star, the former Liverpool player is eyeing a permanent deal for a defender this summer.
Gerrard said: “It will be a permanent deal for a defender.
“There is still a way to go but we have had some progress in the last couple of days.
“If things progress as they have in the last 48 hours, I’m hoping something will get done by the end of the week.”
Rangers won the first game of their Europa League qualification by thumping St Joseph’s 4-0. Ryan Jack, Borna Barisic, Ojo and Alfredo Morelos scored a goal each. And Steven Gerrard was satisfied with his team’s performance.
“We never want to come off the gas,” he said. “I don’t think we are at a stage just yet this squad and this team where we can pick and choose where we turn on the gas.
“So I was very impressed that we kept passing the ball, we didn’t get bored and we kept trying to create chances and we kept searching for more goals.
“We got four tonight, but it possibly could have been a few more.”
