Borussia Dortmund manager Peter Stoger has admitted that his side deserved to lose in their humiliating 6-0 defeat to Bayern Munich on Saturday
Dortmund put in a woeful display against a Bayern brimming with confidence and on the brink of securing a sixth consecutive Bundesliga crown this season.
In a dominant first-half performance, Bayern went 5-0 up and controlled the proceedings in the second-half with Robert Lewandowski securing his hat-trick late in the game to ensure their dominance.
Afterwards, Stoger confessed his disappointment with his side’s performance and the Dortmund coach voiced his opinion that Bayern are now a long way ahead of his own side.
“We’re very disappointed. We completely lacked the fundamental virtues I always mention. We did’t put up enough resistance. Bayern exploited nearly every mistake. We’re a long, long way off Bayern at the moment.” said Stoger, according to the Bayern Munich website.
Dortmund captain Marcel Schmelzer also conceded that they were the deserving losers in the encounter: “We had ambitious targets but you could see we didn’t show it. We didn’t go for the one-on-ones, we were always a step too slow, our opponents always had men over because they moved better. They played cat and mouse with us.”
