Diego Simeone’s faith in Joao Felix remains strong despite the Portuguese’s struggles to hit top form for Atletico Madrid.

Billed as the next Ronaldo in his homeland, Joao Felix has struggled to live up to expectations in his debut campaign for Atletico Madrid.

The 20-year-old also has the unfortunate burden of living to a club-record €126m price tag. Pretty much every Atleti supporter hoped he’d replace the departed Antoine Griezmann without a glitch. However, that’s not been the case at all.

To be fair, Felix has suffered injury problems this season which have restricted him further. While adapting to a new league and country naturally takes time, no matter who you are.

Therefore, Simeone remains confident the young star will overcome his struggles with the right mentality.

“He started with great enthusiasm,” said the Atleti coach via beIN SPORTS.

“He had two injuries that took him out of that continuity.

“He is looking for that continuity in the team again, that continuity we all need and expect from him.

“Hopefully he gets to where he suggested he could, because in the case of young boys it is a consequence of where one wants to go. If he wants to go far, he can.”

Felix may get a chance to improve on his tally in the upcoming La Liga clash between Atletico Madrid and Sevilla on Saturday.
