Luis Suarez has played down Pique’s claim that the players were ready for a salary cut to accommodate Neymar.
In order to lure the Brazilian back to Spain, according to Gerard Pique, Barcelona players agreed to take a cut in their salaries. But Luis Suarez feels that the defender makes bold claims without any ground.
Before the start of the season, Neymar was heavily linked with a move back to Camp Nou. Although the Brazilian ended up staying in France, the rumors only grew stronger as the season progressed.
Gerard Pique’s teammate Luis Suarez has insisted the media take Pique’s claims with a grain of salt. Talking to Sport, Suarez also said that Barcelona players were not involved in any decision regarding the transfer of Neymar.
“Sometimes you have to take what Geri says with a pinch of salt,” Luis Suarez said.
“He has the gift of the gab and a lot of experience in making comments. In this case, he knows and is completely aware that the players were completely removed from the Ney case.
“We were ready to welcome him [Neymar] — him or any other player that wants to come — but always distanced from what was going on,” the Barcelona striker claimed.
Suarez also talked about his life in Barcelona. The 32-year old revealed that he and his family were happy and hinted that he would continue playing for the club.
“Maybe we will live in Barcelona, the family is really happy here. We love it here.”
