The player admitted he was mentally burdened from his time in AC Milan.

Adel Taarabt claims he was “psychologically destroyed” from the Rossoneri, but has become a completely new man thanks to Genoa.

The  Morocco international spent just six months at San Siro on loan from the English Queens Park Rangers back in 2014, scoring four goals and providing two assists in a total of 16 games for AC Milan.

“That experience destroyed my psychologically,” Taarabt, who lost 11kg since joining Genoa, told La Gazzetta dello Sport.

“I had done well with the Rossoneri and we were on the verge of signing the contract, then Pippo Inzaghi arrived and made other choices. Returning to QPR after playing in the Champions League alongside stars like Kaka really hurt.”

Despite the disappointment of being sent back to QPR, the 28-year-old feels emotional about the upcoming game with the Rossoneri: “Taking on Milan is emotional for me now, as I had six wonderful months there at a fantastic club. Now they have changed so much, it’s not easy to build a team with 11 new players, but it’s important for all of Italian football that Milan are trying to get back to the top.

“I know what it’s like playing for Milan, as after 20 minutes if there isn’t a goal, the pressure starts to become unsustainable.”
