Nicolas Tagliafico admits he is open to an exit from Ajax this summer while outlining his desire to play in the most elite competitions.
Ajax defender Nicolas Tagliafico was one of the team’s outstanding performers in their run to the semi-finals of the Champions League last year.
A few reports even suggest Barca are in talks with his agent and he too is eager to reunite with former teammate Frenkie de Jong.
The 27-year old arrived at the Johan Cruijff ArenA from Independiente for a mere €4 million back in 2015. Just one shy of making a century of appearances for the club, he has evolved into one of Europe’s best left-backs.
Speaking to radio station Continental, Tagliafico says he wants to play in a more challenging league. However, he admits he is still undecided about his future.
“It was always my goal to play in the best competitions, at a top club. Ajax is a great club, but the Eredivisie is not a great competition. You must always have dreams,” he said.
“The preparations will start in August for around two months. But whether or not I’ll leave… It’s all uncertain.”
“I’m standing on the sidelines. Maybe I’m on [Barcelona’s] list, but there is nothing concrete. If something happens then I’ll talk with my agent.”
