Bayer Leverkusen defender Jonathan Tah considers Jerome Boateng a role model and is thrilled to be compared to him
The 22-year-old has often been linked to Boateng due to their similar backgrounds at Hamburg and their shared defensive abilities.
Both are over 6′ tall and tend to favour physical and aerial challenges, whilst also having a tendency to use both feet with the ball.
Due to Boateng’s absence from the Germany squad for the current international break, Tah is being lined up as one of the candidates to take his spot.
But the Leverkusen star doubts Die Mannschaft have seen the last of Boateng yet.
“I don’t think so. I have great respect for Jerome,” Tah told Sportbuzzer.
“He has always been a role model for me. Nevertheless, I would like to take my chance if I get it in the next games.”
Tah, who played 30 minutes in Germany’s 3-0 friendly win over Russia on Thursday, is proud to be compared with the Bayern Munich player.
“If I was offered the opportunity to get a career like his, I would take it immediately,” added Tah.
“I would also happily take his collection of titles, but maybe add a couple of titles more (laughs).
“It honours me to be compared to him, even if I want to go my own way.”
