Ajax boss Erik ten Hag hopes David Neres will remain where he is amid reports of a lucrative offer from Guangzhou Evergrande
The Chinese Super League side have made a reported €43m bid for Neres with Ajax uncertain whether or not to accept it given their failure to sign Diego Lainez, who joined Real Betis last week.
The Brazilian winger impressed over at his homeland for Ajax in the Florida Cup, where he scored the fourth goal in their 4-2 win over Sao Paulo on Saturday.
While accepting it may be out of his control, however, Ten Hag is adamant that he wants to see Neres will remain at Amsterdam.
“It’s so complex and there are so many people involved in Ajax at the moment that it may happen,” Ten Hag told De Telegraaf.
“But technically I don’t want to lose a quality player like Neres, because we need him. ”
“There may be a conflict of interest in this business. The board must assume their responsibility.
“If they think they have to sell Neres, that is their choice. if it happens, I will advise that we get another good player.”
Neres has managed four goals and ten assists in 28 appearances across all competitions for Ajax this season.
The former Brazil U-20 international is contracted to the Dutch giants until June 2022.
