The new manager confirmed CR7 is in his plans for next season during his first press conference in England.

New Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag expects Cristiano Ronaldo to continue doing what he does best next season by scoring goals.

The Dutchman held his first press conference on Monday as Manchester United’s head coach. He set out his targets at Old Trafford, discussed the team’s potential, and confirmed Ronaldo – along with Donny van de Beek and Harry Maguire – is part of his plans.

While there had been rumors for weeks suggesting Ronaldo may not have a role to play under the new coach, Ten Hag quickly set reporters straight.

“Of course,” he said when asked if Ronaldo is part of his plans.

Pressed on what he expects from the forward, a Ten Hag replied: “Goals!”

“I will talk to Cristiano [about the new season] before I talk to you,” he added.

Ten Hag has set no transfer targets yet

Several players, including Ajax defender Jurrien Timber, have been touted as potential transfer targets for Ten Hag this summer. The 52-year-old, however, insists he is still assessing his new squad.

“I’m still in the process of analyzing, to set conclusions,” Ten Hag said when asked about the number of players the club might need.

“I’m looking forward to working with these players. The season before, this squad was second in the league, so there is huge potential. I think if we improve, if we work with them, I think we can get out more than what was the result from this season.”

The former Ajax boss arrived in England last week and sat in the stands for Manchester United’s final game of the season on Sunday away to Crystal Palace, which they lost 1-0.

The Red Devils have also announced Steve McClaren and Mitchell van der Gaag will be Ten Hag’s assistants for the 2022/23 campaign.
