Barcelona goalkeeper Marc-Andre ter Stegen has paid tribute to teammate Lionel Messi, declaring him “the best in the world” but “not normal.”
Most players don’t have an entire career that spans 700 top-flight games, never mind 700 with one club.
The milestone itself is an achievement.
But what makes Messi’s accomplishment so much more significant is what he has accomplished on the pitch over 700 games.
This is something his teammate Ter Stegen acknowledges.
In an interview with UEFA after the victory over Dortmund, he paid tribute to the Argentine superstar.
“700 matches for Barcelona is not normal.”
“Neither is what [Messi] did on the pitch.”
“He is simply the best footballer in the world.”
