That’s it – sell Paul Pogba now

Following Mino Raiola’s uncalled for defense of Paul Pogba, it is imperative that Manchester United sell the France international this summer.

Paul Pogba is definitely never going to be a Manchester United great. After clearly stating his intention to leave the club while on a sponsored visit that his club paid for, the writing was already on the wall.

Like a wily and immoral dealer, Mino Raiola kept testing Manchester United’s resolve by offering his player’s services to every club who could afford his client’s over-inflated ego and exorbitant salary.

For over a year, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer had been dealing with the Paul Pogba mess in a graceful manner. Regardless of how much media wanted the player to leave Old Trafford, the Norwegian stood by his former academy pupil.

Even his performances never showed any consistency before he was injured.

And guess what happened then?

Pogba went on and did things that have really let down his manager and quite possibly hurt him.

A major let down!

You could see from Solskjaer’s body language every time someone asks a question about Pogba’s return from injury. The former striker always tries to evade the question and shows the expression of a man who wants to spill the beans but has too much grace about him to go down that road.

Even though Mino Raiola isn’t the nicest man around in all honesty, the Norwegian tactician had tried to keep things calm between two forces – one a man who acts like he owns football and another a frail yet great institution rich in tradition and being hampered by administrative defects.

Sadly though, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s recent comments were clearly taken out of context on the eve of the all-important clash against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.

The United manager was responding to Raiola’s claims of having held discussions with Juventus over a potential return to Juventus for Pogba. Clearly that was something that could have waited or even better…never said out-loud at least until the end of the season.

Being the manager of a club that is already going through so many problems of late, Solskjaer was bound to respond and simply reminded the agent that at the end of the day, Pogba belonged to Manchester United.

To be fair, there’s nothing wrong with what he said.

Pogba’s luxurious lifestyle is being paid by Manchester United and also by the commercial giants that have an association with the Red Devils. Moreover, the French midfielder is under contract at the club.

The perfect storm

Raiola though, found a perfect opportunity to create a perfect storm that would pave the way for the Red Devils in letting go of a player who never realized his true potential during his second coming at Old Trafford.

The recent statements made by Raiola should be treated as the final nail in the coffin. Regardless of what is going on, a player always have the power to control the actions of those advising him. It is evident that Pogba had something to do with this since he could have controlled Raiola’s outspoken tendencies had he wanted to.

Raiola – the puppet or a puppeteer?

Or perhaps, Raiola is just a Trojan horse here and that Pogba was the one pulling strings all along.

Nevertheless, it is time for United to act decisively and ruthlessly and get their hands off of a player who will never become a great of the game.

Last night, Manchester United put in a promising display against Chelsea and registered a crucial away win. All this was done without Pogba in the squad.

Perhaps, life can be even better once he’s gone!
