In 1995 Inter Milan chose to support manager Hector Cuper over favorite son Ronaldo.

You’d be forgiven for being confused, but we are talking about talismanic Brazilian Ronaldo, not Cristiano Ronaldo.

Ronaldo Nazario arrived at Inter Milan from Barcelona in 1997, and during his five years, there was worshipped by the fans as a god.

So when he was faced with a choice, of his team fading away into oblivion or talking to club president Massimo Moratti about the manager’s tactics, he did the later.

Unfortunately for him, this resulted in being shipped out to Real Madrid.

Things didn’t turn out too bad though for the Brazilian superstar at the Santiago Bernabeau

In an interview at the Festival Dello Sport, Ronaldo talks of his love for Inter, and the team he was a part of, which was great in his eyes.

He said:

“That Inter was a fantastic team. Along with Bobo Vieri, we had Clarence Seedorf and many other talents.”

“Unfortunately, the injuries prevented me from sharing the field with Vieri that many times.”

“When I first arrived, there was such great enthusiasm at Inter and the fans believed we could achieve wonderful results.”

“I see enthusiasm around Inter this year too and hope we can win something.”

When he was sold to Real Madrid in 2002, he explains the circumstances and the fact he never wanted to leave, even for Los Blancos.

He added:

“I never wanted to leave Inter, as I felt that was my home and would be for life.”

Opinion: Pele is below Messi or Ronaldo’s level today

We need to talk about a controversial topic in football history, we believe Pele is below Messi or Ronaldo's level in today's football.  King Pele...

“I’d never gone to a President to demand they fire the Coach, as that didn’t seem right and it wasn’t my style.”

“However, we reached a point with Cuper where I simply couldn’t do anything else.”

“He did not treat me well at all. I don’t know if winning the Scudetto would’ve changed my mind.”

“I was convinced Massimo Moratti would sack Cuper, so it was a nasty surprise for me when he backed the Coach.”

“At that moment, as I was too proud, I decided to walk away.”

He has no ill will towards his old club, only love, but feels it was mistake from both sides.

He concluded:

“The city that had first loved me now hated me.”

“I needed police protection. It was tough.”

“I adore Moratti, he was like a father to me.”

“We reached a conclusion to that relationship where both of us made a mistake.”

Ronaldo went on to win replicate his UEFA player of the year and Ballon d’Or achievements with real as he had done at Inter.

He also collected a couple of La Liga titles, as well as a Spanish Super Cup.

Hector Cuper parted company with Inter Milan a year later.
