While Real Madrid and Barcelona are really pushing hard to bring Neymar back to Spain from PSG, the numbers being talked up are frightening.
The Neymar leaving PSG for either Real Madrid or Barcelona saga is definitely one for the ages. A couple of months back, the Brazil international had requested Nasser Al-Khelaifi to be sold to Barcelona.
Despite being treated like a god, the former Santos man misses Barcelona and his old teammates. While he may have left Camp Nou under a cloud of controversy, Neymar still has a close affiliation with many of the club’s current players.
Barca on their part, are totally open to the idea of welcoming back a player who even tried to take them to court for unpaid bonuses. It seems that all has been forgotten and the reigning Spanish champions are working round the clock to bring back the Brazilian forward.
Real Madrid missed out on signing Neymar while he was at Santos and know that this would perhaps be their only opportunity to bring back a player who might give a more complete outlook to the latest line of Galactico talents.
While the Neymar camp is open to listening to offers from the Champions League specialists, it wouldn’t be surprising if that’s just a ploy to get more money out of the Catalan giants.
The Express claims that PSG are more open to selling the player to Barcelona than Real Madrid so Zinedine Zidane could end up seeing another of his targets not coming to the capital.
Real Madrid already have had a player plus cash deal rejected by PSG so it is clearly Barcelona who have the edge over their bitter rivals.
PSG have asked for around 100 million Euros plus full-back Nelson Semedo as part of the deal. However, Barcelona aren’t too keen on losing any member of their squat at the moment.
It is clear that both Spanish outfits won’t be able to afford the €222 million asking price. Therefore, a player plus cash deal is the only solution.
And while Barcelona are looking to pay around €100 million, it remains to be seen which player is going to be included as part of the deal. Ousmane Dembele has already shown that his future lies beyond the confines of Camp Nou.
Semedo may not be a regular but is considered a more important player than the Frenchman.
At present, Neymar earns roughly €750,000 per week at Parc des Princes. While he will take a pay cut in order to return to Barcelona, the Brazilian would still earn somewhere close to €15 million if he is able to seal the much-awaited move.
The talented forward is expected to sign a five-year deal once the financial specifics between the clubs are cleared. This means that Barcelona would be spending close to half a billion Euros on this move.
The figures are definitely frightening. While the likes of Lionel Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo and Antoine Griezmann report more earnings than the Brazilian, they never cost their respective clubs the sort of money Barcelona are willing to let go off.
