It is time to talk about one of the best young defenders in the World, the 23-year old Atletico Madrid star – Lucas Hernandez.
Lucas Francois Bernard Hernandez is a professional football player who plays for Atletico Madrid and the French national team as a defender.
The less talented of Hernandez brother can play as a left-back or a central defender. He is physical, strong, athletic, and extremely quick, especially for a defensive player.
Lucas was born in Marseille in 1996 but moved to Spain with this family at the age of four. He started playing football for a small club from Madrid – Rayo Majadahonda, before moving to Atletico Madrid’s youth academy in 2007 together with his brother Theo Hernandez.

He made his senior debut on 26 April 2014 for the Atletico Madrid B side and played his first game for Los Colchoneros’ first-team eight months later.
Theo was the youngster who showed the best performances in the youth categories of La Liga and the 21-year old full-back left his brother and signed for Real Madrid in July 2017.
He won the Champions League with Los Blancos in his first season, but Lucas was the one who played regular first-team football at Atletico Madrid and found his name on French national team’s 23-man squad for the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia.
Lucas Hernandez established himself as Didier Deschamp’s first pick for the left-back position and featured in all of the matches on France’s way to the FIFA Wolrd Cup title.
The defender was one of the most consistent players during the whole tournament and his excellent games attracted the interest of many European giants, with Bayern Munich, Manchester United and Real Madrid on the top of the list.

Hernandez revealed that he has already rejected Los Blancos saying: “My agent told me about [the offer]. When he said there was an opportunity to go to Real Madrid, I told him I couldn’t do that. Atletico is my club, a team who have given me everything.
“I’m an honest person and I couldn’t go to Madrid. I hope I can stay here for a very long time, but football moves very fast. If an offer comes in that I can’t refuse…” – he didn’t finish the last sentence implying that is ready to leave Atletico for the right offer and the right club.
However, the World Cup winner is enjoying his fourth season in the first team of Atletico Madrid. He scored his first goal for the club two months ago but has missed the past four games due to a knee injury.
Lucas Hernandez is still young and if he keeps improving, there is a bright future in football in front of him.
