The race for Coutinho’s signature is hotting up

Spurs have joined the race to sign the Barcelona man.

According to Sky Sports News, Tottenham Hotspurs boss Mauricio Pochettino has made a personal phone call to the Brazilian.

As we brought new earlier that Arsenal was looking at a loan deal for the Barca man’s services.

It appears now Spurs have joined the race too.

It was not thought that Barcelona would consider a loan agreement initially.

However, removing a couple of hundred thousand a week off the wage bill for a player who doesn’t want to be there is better than nothing.

Coutinho has actually played for Pochettino before. He had a successful six-month loan at Espanyol in 2012, scoring five goals in 16 appearances.

The Argentine tactician was the manager at the time.

Barcelona paid Liverpool a whopping 142 million only back in January 2018.

But the Brazilain has endured a tough time in Catalonia. He has never truly discovered the form that made him so sought after.

There has been talk of Barcelona willing to take a loss in order to recoup money and continue their summer rebuild.

They have already spent over 200 million this summer and are desperate to bring home Neymar from PSG.

But even with the price as low as 80 million pounds being touted around, there have been no takers.

It appears if Philippe Coutinho’s nightmare in Spain is to come to an end. It will have to be on loan. At least initially.

Social media has gone into meltdown mode with the two North London giants apparently going toe to toe for the star.
