Benjamin Pavard is a French football player who currently plays as a defender for VfB Stuttgart.
Pavard is born in Maubeuge, France and developed his love for football in his hometown club US Jeumont. He joined Lille’s academy at the age of nine and made his professional debut in 2014 for Lille’s B team.
The youngster was not satisfied with his playing time in France and decided to move to 2. Bundesliga side – VfB Stuttgart in the summer of 2016. He made his debut for the club in October, scoring in a 4–0 home victory over Greuther Furth.
Pavard played 21 games in his first season with Stuttgart and helped the team to gain promotion back to top-flight German football.

He quickly established himself as one of the best defenders in the league and was one of only four players to feature in every single second of the 2017–18 Bundesliga campaign.
His excellent performances for Stuttgart were noticed by the manager of the France national team Didier Deschamps and Benjamin Pavard found his name on the 23-man French squad for the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia.
Pavard’s primary position is a central defender but he was Deschamps’ first choice for the right-back position and the 22-year old started all but one of France’s games on their way to the World Cup title.
He scored his first goal for the national team in the Round of 16 against Argentina firing a stunning volley from outside the penalty area to level the score in the 57th minute of the game.
His goal was later voted for the best strike in the competition and the French defender went home with a double prize.
Pavard believes that his decision to move to Germany turned out pretty good for him, saying: “One year ago, I was still a stranger [to the French national team]. I went abroad in 2016 without proving anything in my home country and was told that I’d made a bad decision when I signed for Stuttgart in the second division. But I went to Stuttgart to get minutes of action under my belt and to mature, and now I’m living a dream.”

In January 2019 Bayern Munich announced that Benjamin Pavard has signed a five-year contract with the club, and the young French defender will move to the Allianz Arena at the start of 2019-20 season.
The World Cup winner will be a part of the new Bavarian side, as the German champions are expected to have a change of generations in the summer of 2019.
