Theo Hernandez has chosen to continue his playing career with Milan and the presence of Maldini was one of the reasons why that’s the case.
In two years, Theo Hernandez has experienced a lot of twists. In the summer of 2017, the youngster caught the eye of Real Madrid following excellent displays with Deportivo Alaves.
Real Madrid did not hesitate to break the pact of non-aggression with Atletico Madrid to sign Theo Hernandez. However, after a rather indifferent season with Los Merengues, the brother of Lucas Hernandez signed up for Real Sociedad on a season long loan.
However, it wasn’t enough for the residents of Santiago Bernabeu to keep him or give him a chance. Zinedine Zidane had informed Theo Hernandez that he should look for another club.
The French tactician was always going to rely on the likes of Ferland Mendy and Marcelo next season so Hernandez had to leave.
However, now that he is at Milan, the youngster wants to do well for the Serie A giants.
While speaking to French media (via Foot Mercato), Theo Hernandez explained why he chose to move to San Siro.
“As a kid, Paolo Maldini was my idol. In recent years, I observed Marcelo. Paolo Maldini is the best left-back in history. We spoke in Ibiza and it was an important meeting. I wanted to wear the Milan jersey.”
Theo Hernandez is definitely going to get a lot of advice from the legendary Italian full back who has a lot of faith in him.
“Theo is one of the best full-backs in the world. He must aim for the top. A mix of me and Marcelo would be great.”
And Theo Hernandez is keen to help Milan get back to winning ways.
“I came here to win and I hope to be able to do that. Milan players have great qualities. I am young, the road is long.”
