Kieran Tierney was full of praise for his teammate after Pepe carried Arsenal to a hard-earned 3-2 win in Europa League last night.
Arsenal hosted Guimaraes as the Gunners looked to extend their perfect streak in the group stage of the Europa League.
Despite the expectations of an easy win, the hosts struggled at the Emirates.
However, Nicolas Pepe stepped up as the €80 million signing showed his worth by scoring two beautiful free-kicks.
The second one was really special, as it was a 90th-minute match-winner over the wall.
This caused an explosion of emotions and happiness in North London, and Pepe’s teammates weren’t immune.
Kieran Tierney started the match last night, as the youngster is yet to prove himself after a big transfer from Celtic.
It seems as if the Scot is fitting in pretty well. After the match, Tierney spoke to Arsenal’s official website.
“That just shows you he is a special player, and in a moment like that he can produce a bit of magic. That’s what we needed.
“It will be massive for him, it’s a hard place to come and hit the ground running. It’s a massive club, in a massive league. He deserves that because he’s been working hard every single day.”
However, Pepe wasn’t the only shining newcomer. Gabriel Martinelli also scored, assisted by Tierney last night.
“I love playing with Gabi, even in training as well – but I hate playing against him!” Tierney commented on his teammate.
“He’s a great player.
“You can see how clinical he is in front of goal. He’s good at everything – there’s not a negative I can say about Gabi [Martinelli]. He’s got the lot.”
