On this very day in 2009, Real Madrid made a signing that would change the history of the club forever, Cristiano Ronaldo arrived.

Only a year earlier Sir Alex Ferguson rebuked Real Madrid’s advances and convinced Cristiano Ronaldo to give him another year at Old Trafford.

While Fergie publicly declared he would “not sell them a virus” he secretly agreed with Cristiano Ronaldo he could leave for a world record fee in 12 months.

Role forward to July 2009 and Sir Alex was true to his word as was Ronaldo.

Los Blancos stumped up a massive 94 million Euro transfer fee and the rest, as they say, is history.

An astonishing 450 goals and 131 assists in 438 games. He is the club’s all-time leading goal scorer. 312 in LaLiga, 105 in the Champions League, 22 in the Copa del Rey, six in the Club World Cup, four in the Spanish Super Cup and two in the UEFA Super Cup.

His trophy haul during his nine years at the Santiago Bernabeu wasn’t bad either.

Four Champions League crowns, three Club World Cups and three UEFA Super Cups, two La Liga titles, a pair of Copa del Reys and two Spanish Super Cups.

Don’t forget the personal accolades too.

With four Ballons d’Or, three Golden Shoe awards, two The Best awards, also being named UEFA Best Player in Europe three times.
