Former Liverpool player has criticized manager Jurgen Klopp’s decision to field Dejan Lovren in the club’s FA Cup encounter against Wolverhampton Wanderers.
On talkSPORT via Daily star, Cascarino said:
“The situation is, you’ve lost three centre-halves. [Joel] Matip, Lovren and [Joe] Gomes so it’s a big problem for Liverpool that that injury crisis has happened in the same position.
“It’s a position that they obviously knew they were pretty desperate in because they’ve signed Virgil van Dijk.
“The emergence of Gomes has been massive at Liverpool Football Club, they’ve missed him every bit much as bit as they missed Van Dijk before they had him, ok?
“So, that’s a big break. Do they need a centre half? Absolutely not. How are they going to get through this period? Well, they used Fabinho as a centre half against Wolves in the cup.
“I think he can play there, they don’t have to change formation and go to a three, they can stay as a four because that’s where I think they’re at their best.”
