With a new decade about to begin, we need to talk about the Top 10 most iconic moments of the last 10 years in world football.

A full decade is about to end, we need to talk about the Top 10 most iconic moments of the last ten years.

So many great moments have taken place in world football during that time.

It’s really hard to pick only ten out of everything that happened but someone’s got to do it.

We took a poll inside Ronaldo.com’s office and came up with the most memorable and iconic moments.

We know we won’t please everybody, but please let us know in the comment section down below.

10.- Brazil gets humiliated at home.

This one was completely unexpected and it happened during the 2014 FIFA World Cup.

Brazil was the tournament’s host and they were playing without injured Neymar.

What came during the game was the single biggest humiliation in Brazilian football history since the Maracanazo.

9.- The FBI charges FIFA with corruption.

During the middle of the decade, the FBI uncovered a massive corruption scandal within FIFA.

We all knew something fishy had been going on for decades but nobody wanted to do anything about it.

When it finally happened, it cost both Sepp Blatter and Michel Platini their presidencies. Many things have changed in the organization since then.

8.- VAR changes the game as we knew it.

The dreaded VAR started getting implemented in professional football only a couple of years ago.

The reactions have been mixed and most of the professionals don’t like it.

Although it is true that its nature changes the game’s core, it had to happen in order to get more transparency in football.

7.- Leicester City’s incredible underdog story.

We ll love a great underdog story and one happens every decade or so.

The one we all witnessed was Leicester City’s Cinderella tale during the 2015-16 season.

The team managed by Claudio Ranieri maintained a solid foundation that allowed them to lift the trophy by the end of the season.

A modest squad won the trophy for the first time in the modern era.

6.- Neymar affects the transfer market forever.

The rumors of a possible massive transfer started to flow through the different channels before it actually happened.

Before him, Cristiano Ronaldo and Gareth Bale’s arrivals to Real Madrid were the most expensive in history.

PSG obliterated that record by paying €222 million to FC Barcelona for Neymar, it happened in the summer of 2017.

We have a feeling that this record will be broken again with Kylian Mbappe.

5.- Enter Kylian Mbappe.

Speaking of the devil. There hadn’t been an appearance in world football quite as flashy as Kylian Mbappe.

I can still remember the first time I heard the name, I needed to see what all the fuzz was about.

My first experience was his Champions League performances against Manchester City.

What an entrance from a kid that doesn’t seem like he will stop growing any time soon.

4.- Sergio Aguero’s last-minute madness.

This is arguably one of the most exhilarating moments in modern football history, it all happened in the blink of an eye.

Sergio Aguero scored the goal that began Manchester City’s recent success story.

You all remember what this moment was like, pure madness inside a football pitch.

On the other specter, Manchester United suffered this day more than any other club.

3.- Sir Alex Ferguson retires from the game.

After more than two decades at the helm of a massive football club. Sir Alex Ferguson finally decided to call it quits as Manchester United’s manager.

When he retired, we knew that the best manager in football history was bidding farewell to everybody.

Nobody has any doubts about who the best is, Sir Alex changed the game forever.

2.- Spain’s international Golden Era.

Nobody will ever forget one of the most dominant football squads in history.

This is how the Spain National Team will be remembered forever.

The generation that played at its best between 2008 and 2012, gave us some of the most beautiful football ever witnessed.

These players can only be compared to other legendary teams such as Pele’s Brazil or Zinedine Zidane’s France.

1.- The Messi vs Ronaldo rivalry.

We can’t simply pick one out of the many moments of this magical rivalry.

There are so many to choose from the last decade, that we decided to put it all in a single paragraph.

We will never see anything like this happen again, Messi and Ronaldo gave us their soul with all their effort to beat their greatest rival.

All we can do it thank them for giving us so much over the last ten years.
