With La Liga well underway this season in Spain, there is a top 5 list of the best players who have brought their best game to this new tournament.

The Spanish La Liga is underway, there are many things we can discuss the very best players we have seen so far but we are only going to talk about the 5 best so far in the competition. The international break will give us a little bit of rest from this great start of a new season, but these three matches have been more than enough for us to know which players are going to be the ones who shall deliver top performances on a consistent basis. As it’s usual here in Spain, there are two clubs that usually have more than one player on these types of lists, which is why we are giving you a heads-up about it. But there is a major surprise on this list that nobody will be expecting, here are the Top 5 best La Liga players of the season so far.

1.- Lionel Messi.

There is a frightening statistic about Lionel Messi that everyone should be afraid of, which is his level of performance right after a World Cup fiasco because of his heartbreak for not winning the tournament that he’s been chasing during his whole professional career. After his debut back in 2006 with Argentina, came Lionel Messi’s most impressive solo goals for Barcelona, including the one he scored against Getafe. Then after the 2010 World Cup in South Africa, came the Champions League success with Pep Guardiola’s Barcelona at Wembley Stadium with a goal scored by Messi in the final. Then there is the season right after the Brazil heartbreak, which brought FC Barcelona’s second treble ever and perhaps the most unplayable Messi we have ever seen. So after yet another World Cup failure, you all know what to expect from Lio.

2.- Karim Benzema.

In all the nine years that Karim Benzema had played in Real Madrid, Cristiano Ronaldo’s presence conditioned his style of play to a more generous position in which he needed to sacrifice his goal scoring chops in order to leave more chances for Cristiano to score his usual 50 goals per season. Now that the Portuguese forward is not around anymore, the French striker is playing in a more liberated manner and has started the season with four goals in three matches and sharing the top of the goal-scoring table with none other than Lionel Messi. This is the Benzema that all Real Madrid fans had always demanded, but are only now getting thanks to Ronaldo’s departure to Juventus.

3.- Gareth Bale.

The other Real Madrid star who is playing more liberated thanks to Cristiano Ronaldo’s exit, Gareth Bale has always been considered amongst the best players in the world but now is his chance to finally opt to compete for the Ballon d’Or next year. The Welshman already finished last season in a spectacular manner with those two goals against Liverpool in the Champions League final, but this season looks like it will be even better than ever but people still fear he could fall injured at some point during the season. If Gareth Bale doesn’t suffer a new muscular injury and can complete the whole year without a problem, there is a very good chance that Real Madrid will compete for all the trophies again.

4.- Nestor Araujo.

One of La Liga’s biggest surprises this season is Antonio Mohamed’s Celta de Vigo, the Spanish club that just came from defeating Diego Simeone’s Atletico Madrid last weekend and have proved that they will be a very annoying side at home for all the title contenders. But out of all the players who are delivering great performances for Mohamed, there is no question that the most exciting appearance in Spanish football so far is Mexican defender Nestor Araujo. The former Santos Laguna player is Antonio Mohamed’s life insurance, he is the best defender in this start of the season by far and is showing a lot of promise for his first year in European football. Even though he isn’t a youngster anymore, Araujo still has a good five years to play in Europe and should become one of the best Mexican players in the world with these new heights he has reached for Celta.

5.- Ousmane Dembele.

Before the season started there was a moment in which Ousmane Dembele really considered to leave FC Barcelona for a new opportunity at Paris Saint-Germain, but the club’s board of directors know better and they refused to let him go. They specifically asked manager Ernesto Valverde to give the young player a starring role from the very beginning, the result has been truly amazing to watch. Dembele is one of the most creative wingers in this start of La Liga season so far, his goals and tricks on the field in every single match have the Camp Nou fans drooling and asking for more football from him. If he remains at this level of performance, Dembele can take Barcelona to compete for all the tournaments this season alongside Leo Messi.
