It’s hard not to feel a little sorry for Dwight Gayle. He’s the epitome of the kind of player that’s too good for the Championship but not good enough for the Premier League.

Yet, he’s never really been given a chance to make his mark in the top-flight. Crystal Palace never gave him a shot, nor did Newcastle United.

Gayle, though, is a good, consistent goalscorer. He’s certainly good enough to play for teams further down the Premier League.

He finished last season with 24 goals in the Championship, that should be enough to tempt any side in the bottom half of the table.
