AC Milan – 8 times
France Football has crowned six players from the San Siro as Europe’s best player over the last 63 years.
The French outlet crowned Gianna Rivera first following a splendid year for both AC Milan and Italy in 1969. However, the Serie A giants had to wait nearly two decades before another even entered the top-three.
But Ruud Gullit ended their anguish by comfortably winning the 1987 Ballon d’Or with a stunning 106 points. It triggered an era for dominance for Milan, with fellow Dutchman Marco van Basten winning it in the following two years.
The Ajax icon won the award again in 1992 for the final time in his legendary career.
Andriy Shevchenko (2004) and Kaka (2007) are the most recent Ballon d’Or winners for the Rossoneri.
