Cristiano Ronaldo was still a 19-year old boy when he played his first major tournament for Portugal, appearing at the 2004 UEFA Euro on home soil.
He got off to a great start scoring on his debut against Greece, but his best performance in the competition came in the semi-finals against the Netherlands when he noted a goal and assist, guiding his country to their first-ever final in a major international tournament.
They failed to win the title though, losing 1-0 to Greece in one of the biggest upsets in recent football’s history.
