The German legend accomplished the rare feat of playing for Barcelona, Atletico Madrid and Real Madrid in his career. It’s something almost hard to believe, yet Schuster did just that.
Bernd first arrived in La Liga in 1980 by joining Barcelona from Cologne. He became a central figure in the Blaugrana midfield for nearly a decade, winning one league title, a European Cup Winners’ Cup and three Copa del Reys.
The talented midfielder later made a controversial transfer to rivals Real Madrid in 1988. Despite his prior association with Barca, Schuster slotted into Los Blancos well and won a further two league titles. Then if you would believe, he went to Real’s local rivals Atletico.
Moving to the red side of Madrid in 1990, however, wasn’t a failure for Schuster. The Rojiblancos couldn’t win La Liga, but benefitted from his presence and won two Copa del Reys.
The German returned to Real Madrid in 2007 for a brief stint as manager, which yielded one more La Liga title.
