Villa’s standout performances for Valencia led to a €40m transfer to Barcelona in the summer of 2010. He spent the next three years at Camp Nou, providing 48 goals and 24 assists in 119 games.
But a broken leg in late 2011 spoilt the World Cup winner’s time at Barcelona. After a lengthy layoff, he returned but not quite as the same prolific striker he once was.
Villa later joined Atletico Madrid in 2013 for €2.10m for one season. While his goal count was no longer the same, the Spaniard still helped Diego Simeone’s side defy the odds to win La Liga.
