The 2019/20 European Golden Shoe race is beginning to take shape, so we’ve decided to look at the top-5 leaders. Heads up – Lionel Messi isn’t on the list.
Six-time winner Messi’s exclusion from the list will no doubt come as a huge surprise for many considering he’s won the European Golden Shoe for the last three seasons. This time around, however, he’s down in 38th-place overall.
Last season’s runner-up Kylian Mbappe, meanwhile, finds himself down in 192nd-place after struggling with injury problems this term.
And Cristiano Ronaldo, who has only scored five goals in his 10 Serie A appearances, is way back in 205th-place after drawing a blank against AC Milan.
So, with the big three favourites out of the picture, who exactly is in the top-five?
Remember the European Sports Media determines the list for this award based on the number of goals and the strength of the player’s league (e.g. goals scored * league strength = total points).
