2. Spain (2008 to 2012)
Spain were initially better known for being home to Barcelona and Real Madrid before the start of the 21st century.
All that changed, however, when the Golden Generation arrived in the mid-2000s.
La Roja became world-beaters in the space of a few years, with the Euro 2008 marking the nation’s first major international triumph since 1964.
The Golden Generation went on to dominate football by lifting the World Cup in 2010. They then retained the European Championship two years later.
