Just two years ago, the French footballer’s career at Real Madrid seemed near it’s end.
Benzema, widely regarded as one of the most underrated players of the last decade, attracted a lot of criticism for his lack of goals. In fact, he finished with just 12 in 47 games in 2017/18.
But Cristiano Ronaldo’s sudden departure from Madrid that summer breathed fresh life into Benzema. Gone were the days of being in the Portuguese’s shadow. He was finally the key man.
The former Lyon man has since managed over 50 goals and 20 assists over the last two seasons for Los Blancos.
Benzema’s brilliance alone since the season restarted in June has taken Real Madrid back to the top of the La Liga standings.
