Cazorla feared he may never walk again after undergoing eight operations on an Achilles injury. These included reconstructive surgery and a skin graft as an infection saw 10cm of his Achilles tendon eaten away.
Despite being released by Arsenal, Cazorla returned to Villarreal for a third spell and impressed greatly back in La Liga. The playmaker made 35 appearances and finished with 10 assists and four goals to his name last season.
These performances led to a recall into the Spanish national team. He made his first appearances for La Roja in 1,300 days on July 2019 during a 4-1 win over Faroe Islands.
Cazorla has since continued to deliver strong performances for Villarreal, and he’s arguably been one of the best La Liga players this season.
