Just days before a new La Liga season starts and the market window closes, we will talk to you about the Top 5 most shocking La Liga exits so far.

Just weeks away from La Liga’s start and the summer transfer window’s deadline, we already talked about the best arrivals but we haven’t yet mentioned the most shocking La Liga exits so far this summer. There were quite a few players who decided to leave their clubs despite having a great present and an even greater future with the squads they represented, we have a couple of names in our mind that most certainly shocked everyone after their exits were announced. However, maybe you have a very different set of names on your own list and we can compare notes by the time you are finished reading this editorial piece. We give you the Top 5 most shocking La Liga exits so far this summer, let us know if our list has many or no similarities with yours.

1.- Zinedine Zidane.

We start with the most shocking one of all, the most unexpected exit because we really thought he was happy at Real Madrid. Zinedine Zidane called Florentino Perez and decided to drop the bomb on his lap, the French manager decided to leave Real Madrid after winning his third straight Champions League trophy and left everyone in the press room speechless. This exit is the most important out of all the list because it triggered another exit that left all Madridistas even more shocked than before, Zizou represented everything that was right about being a Real Madrid fan and not having him around anymore was a huge blow for everybody.

2.- Cristiano Ronaldo.

Right after Zidane’s exit and Portugal’s World Cup elimination, people were already expecting an announcement from Cristiano Ronaldo as many were calling him on his apparent bluff of leaving the club. But the speculation was all true, CR7 felt like he had fulfilled a cycle with Los Blancos and he believed it was time to move on. His destination was Italy to play for Juventus, the Serie A giants that had been expecting a player like him to have an actual chance at winning the Champions League once again. the reactions amongst Madridistas were varied, some were in denial when the announcement was made and others graciously accepted his decision because they are grateful for everything he’s done for the club. We will all miss Ronaldo playing in La Liga every week.

3.- Andres Iniesta.

Another exit the ended in a sour goodbye because the player didn’t want to leave the club in the first place, Iniesta requested a contract increase because he felt he deserved it after everything he has done for the Catalan club. But the inept Barcelona board of directors went and did it again with another club legend, they didn’t agree on Iniesta’s contract extension request and they practically pushed him out of the club. Although the player got the farewell he deserved and retired with a title, his final season will forever remain stained due to the poor treatment he received from the club’s board of directors. Iniesta was still at the top of his game, he could’ve easily played a leading role for a couple more seasons.

4.- Kepa Arrizabalaga.

Kepa’s constant demonstrations against Athletic Club back in January when he pushed to leave Real Madrid was not taken lightly by the fans, his relationship with the followers was already broken from that time and he attempted to exit the club once again. After many complicated negotiations, the Athletic Club goalie finally agreed on terms with Chelsea FC and is now a Premier League player. It’s sad to see him go because this man has the potential of becoming one of the best keepers in the world in the not so distant future, we will follow his career in England very closely and we will hope that one day he will return to Spain.

5.- Sime Vrsaljko.

Both Atletico Madrid and Diego Simeone opposed Tima Vrsaljko’s exit from the Colchonero club, he just came from a fantastic World Cup performance with Croatia and even reached the final. But the player’s lack of minutes last season was more than enough for him to not feel valued and decide to leave Spain, his new club is Italian giant Internazionale Milano. For Atletico this is a very painful exit because they felt like Tima was one of the most promising players they had, and now his progression with Atletico got completely tossed aside due to a simple misunderstanding.
