Transfer windows have not been particularly exciting for Newcastle fans over the last decade or so. January changed all that, though.

The capture of Miguel Almiron from MLS side Atlanta for £20 million was the first time the club have broken their transfer record since 2005.

The early signs are that it was a smart move to make. As debuts go, Almiron will be extremely pleased with his against Huddersfield.

The 25-year-old was the star of the show with an all-round performance that will have delighted Rafa Benitez. The only thing missing was a goal, and that was denied him by the width of a post. The Magpies will be hoping there’s more of the same coming soon.
