Like Cavani, Meunier will be a free agent in the summer once his Paris Saint-Germain contract ends. With just 16 Ligue 1 appearances under his belt this season, the right-back is keen for regular minutes.
PSG’s loss could be Inter’s gain, though.
Antonio Conte isn’t exactly short of right-back options through an ageing Antonio Candreva and Danilo D’Ambrosio. But their best days seem behind them. Meunier, on the other hand, is a proven performer at the highest level.
The 28-year-old was a key part in the Belgium team that finished third in the 2018 World Cup. He also offers Conte the possibility to play as a right winger or full-back, which is always a useful trait.
Signing Meunier won’t be the same as bringing in some superstar, but it at least adds more depth into the squad.
