Amid the uncertainty surrounding Lautaro Martinez’s future, Inter Milan need reinforcements in the striker department. As previously mentioned Edinson Cavani could be a suitable replacement.
Someone else who could partner Romelu Lukaku up front next season could be Dries Mertens. The Belgian has spent the last six years starring for Napoli, recently surpassing Marek Hamsik and Diego Maradona to become the club’s record goalscorer.
And while this season hasn’t been Mertens’ most impressive one to date, he should be good enough to partner Lukaku. He would fill in perfectly while Inter develop a young successor. It doesn’t hurt the forward will be a free agent either.
