Ligue 1 and the French Football Federation have confirmed that the French season is over and Paris Saint-Germain are the Champions.

Rumors have been doing the rounds all day that the French league was over and PSG was to be declared champions.

It has taken the French authorities several hours to make an official declaration.

The country’s government had already declared that all sporting events were prohibited due to COVID-19 until at the earliest September 2020.

Ligue 1 made the following statement:

“In light of the decisions taken and declarations made by the Prime Minister and government, the LFP has ended the 2019/20 season.”

“The Ligue 1 Conforama final standings are based on an average of points earned per match played.”

“In case of a tied average, head to head results will be used to separate clubs.”

“The Board of Directors voted unanimously to award the Ligue 1 Conforama championship to Paris Saint-Germain.”

“The Domino’s Ligue 2 championship to FC Lorient for the 2019/20 season.”

The statement also confirmed some club’s worse fears that relegations would also take place.

It continued:

“The Board of Directors has decided that two clubs will be relegated from Ligue 1 to Ligue 2.”

This means that Amiens and Toulouse will drop down to Ligue 2.

There was good news for Ligue 2 clubs though, as Lorient and Lens will be promoted to the top flight.
