Torres chooses between Messi and Ronaldo

El Niño lauded both players, but chose only one as the best in the world.

Atlético Madrid forward Fernando Torres believes Lionel Messi is the best player in the world, insisting that the Catalan would have won twice as much if it had not been for Cristiano Ronaldo.

The Real Madrid star claimed his fifth Ballon d’Or earlier this month, levelling Lionel Messi’s accomplishment. The pair will face each other in the forthcoming El Clásico on Saturday and while Torres praised Ronaldo for his incredible achievements, he chose Messi as the best player in the world of football.

“What Cristiano Ronaldo has done in the time of Messi says a lot about him,” Torres told Radio MARCA.

Ernesto Valverde tells La Liga to keep El Clasico in Barcelona

Ernesto Valverde urged La Liga to keep the upcoming Clasico between Barcelona and Real Madrid at Camp Nou despite the unrest in Catalonia.

“If he wasn’t there, then Messi would have achieved double.

“I think that Messi is the best player in the world, although they are different players.”

While Cristiano Ronaldo has 4 La Liga goals in 11 appearances for Real Madrid this season, Lionel Messi has 14 goals in 16 appearances for the Catalans, helping Barca move six points clear on top of the league.
