Tottenham Hotspur have confirmed that Vincent Janssen had a “minor foot surgery” and will be facing a spell on the sidelines

The Dutch forward has fallen out of favour at Spurs and had been transfer listed by manager Mauricio Pochettino at the start of the summer.

This came after Janssen failed to make the desired impact at the club after arriving from Dutch side AZ Alkmaar in 2016 for £17m.

The 24-year-old spent last season on loan at Turkish side Fenerbahce but will now be facing a spell out while he recovers from his surgery.

“Vincent Janssen has undergone minor foot surgery,” read a statement.

“He will now go through a period of recovery and rehabilitation overseen by our medical staff.”

Pochettino had hoped to offload Janssen before the end of the month and even avoided handing him a shirt number this season. after omitting him from the club’s US tour.

But now the Netherlands international will remain at North London until January at the very earliest.

Janssen has scored just two goals in 28 Premier League appearances for Tottenham.
