Giovani Lo Celso could become the latest expensive acquisition for Spurs this summer as the club looks to find a long-term replacement for Christian Eriksen.
Tottenham have identified Giovani Lo Celso as one of their top targets of the summer. Following the record breaking move for Tanguy Ndombele, the Londoners are now looking to sign a more creative player.
According to Estadio Deportivo, Mauricio Pochettino’s side have already agreed personal terms with the young midfielder who will make around €180,000 a week. Now only a transfer fee stands between the English giants and the player with Real Betis asking for at least €70 million for a player who has a bright future ahead of him.
And while he is an expensive acquisition, Giovani Lo Celso is definitely going to be a great long-term replacement for Christian Eriksen.
The Denmark international has already stated that he wants to try something new this summer. Although Tottenham are not going to stand in his way, it appears that Eriksen hasn’t received any concrete offers so far.
While there was interest from Real Madrid earlier in the summer, it appears that interest has cooled off. Zinedine Zidane is hell-bent on signing Paul Pogba from Manchester United this summer which means that Eriksen is only going to be a plan B.
Manchester United was supposed to be another potential destination but that seems unlikely. The Red Devils are focused on bringing Bruno Fernandes and Sergej Milinkovic-Savic to Old Trafford.
This means that even if Giovani Lo Celso were to arrive, the youngster will have to compete for a place in the starting XI. For nearly six years, Eriksen has established himself as the creative force of the North London side.
And if he stays at the club, Giovani Lo Celso will have a hard time replacing the Dane.
