1. Zinedine Zidane to Blackburn Rovers
This one deserves to be top of this list.
Blackburn Rovers were on cloud nine in the summer of 1995 having won their first Premier League title. All those long nights and millions invested paid off beautifully.
While stars like Alan Shearer and Chris Sutton were firing in plenty of goals for the club.
But head coach Kenny Dalglish knew his squad needed reinforcements for the following season. So he identified Zinedine Zidane and Christophe Dugarry as his two top transfer targets.
“Why do you want to sign Zidane when we have Tim Sherwood?” Rovers chairman Jack Walker told him.
Dalglish left a year later and Blackburn suffered relegation in 1999.
Zidane, meanwhile, joined Juventus in 1996 instead and became a Ballon d’Or winner just two years later.
The legendary midfielder helped France win the World Cup that same year and is one of the greatest players of all-time.
