9. Steven Gerrard to Chelsea
For most Liverpool fans, Steven Gerrard not playing football at Anfield seemed impossible to believe.
The Englishman was a home-grown Liverpudlian and a proud Red throughout his entire career.
But Liverpool’s failure to win the Premier League during Gerrard’s days on the pitch was a disappointment. The midfielder was one of the best at his peak and could have played anywhere.
And it turns out moves to Manchester United and Chelsea were a real possibility in the mid-2000s.
Jose Mourinho, especially, was keen to bring him to Stamford Bridge in 2005.
