6. Robert Lewandowski to Blackburn Rovers
Today, Lewandowski is one of Europe’s greatest strikers following his exploits in Germany since 2010.
The Pole is, perhaps, the only player capable of challenging Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi’s incredible goal tallies.
But Lewandowski’s career could have turned out very differently had it not been for a volcanic ash cloud in Poland.
It halted his flight to England on route to a transfer from Lech Poznan to Blackburn, which allowed Borussia Dortmund to pinch him.
“He was due to fly to the UK, but all flights were cancelled due to that volcanic ash cloud,” Blackburn’s head of recruitment, Martyn Glover, told Sky.
Rovers haven’t played Premier League football since 2012.
“If I'd went there (England), Blackburn would have been my first choice” – Robert Lewandowski. #Rovers
