The apparent war of words between Kieran Trippier and Mauricio Pochettino is thought to be nothing more than a misunderstanding.
Trippier was sold by Tottenham this summer.
The right-back was a standout player a couple of seasons back. But after some injuries last year, he has struggled for form.
This 2019 summer transfer window, it was deemed that he was surplus to requirements at Spurs.
A 22 million Euro offer from Atletico Madrid, was too good to turn down. Tottenham cashed in on the 28 year old England international.
The deal represented a 17 million Euro profit on a player they acquired from Burnley back in 2015.
Although the move was engineered by the North London club and went against the player’s wishes. He is content that the move was for the best.
According to Sky Sports Trippier said:
“It’s disappointing, I gave everything for the club and I wanted to stay.”
“I had another couple of years left, but everything happens for a reason.”
“Tottenhamgot rid of me at the wrong time, but I struggled with injuries.”
“I could have come back fit and fresh, but they made the decision and now I’m at Atletico.”
It was thought that Tottenham boss Pochetino took exception to the words, and felt aggrieved.
Sky Sports reported in his recent press conference, that the player had reached out to clear the air, but he never got the messages.
“On Wednesday, when Harry Kane arrived back he said to me ‘did you get Kieran’s text?'”
“I said ‘no’, because I changed my number.”
“Maybe it was because he doesn’t have the new number.”
“He believed his words were twisted, I don’t know anything more.”
“He translated this message to me through Harry Kane.
“He wanted to tell me.
“But I’ve got no problem with Kieran.”
