Kieran Trippier joined Atletico Madrid in an attempt to get back on the right path, reinventing his career in Spain, far away from the spotlight of English football.

The English international succeeded in getting his career back on track.

Simeone uses Trippier as a creative outlet on the right. Englishman’s bent crosses often find their target, offering a special kind of threat in the attacking movements.

Playing with Costa can be a fun experience, both on and off the pitch. Trippier confirmed this by telling the hilarious story of how the Englishman earned his nickname.

“It’s just because I’m the only English player here and Rooney’s the only one he’s [Costa] heard of; it could have been anything,” Trippier told Guardian.

“He just calls me that because it’s the first name that came into his mind. And everywhere I go, they shout Rooney.

“When I warm up, everyone’s shouting it. Everyone. I have Diego [Costa] to thank for this. Of all the names.”

Trippier could play a big part in Atletico’s title race aspirations. Cholo’s men sit in third, just a point behind the leading duo of Barcelona and Real Madrid.
