Kieran Trippier was blown away by the fighting spirit shown by Atletico Madrid in their recent win over Mexican giants Chivas Guadalajara.
Despite playing a big chunk of the match with ten men, Kieran Trippier and co. held their nerves and registered a penalty shootout win over the Mexican giants.
And Kieran Trippier was amazed by the fighting spirit showcased by his new teammates. While the match wasn’t supposed to be a herculean affair, Marcos Llorente’s 24th minute red card meant that Atletico Madrid had to dig deep in order to get a favourable result.
And Kieran Tripper was glad that his team showed great mentality to go on and win the game under such tough circumstance.
“I thought we reacted well,” said Trippier according to Goal.
“The mentality of the team was unbelievable, we continued to press and try to win the ball back quickly.
“We want to win, no matter who we play. That’s the mindset from this team and this coach.
“Two wins from two games and long may it continue.”
And Trippier also spoke about how things have been for him since leaving Spurs for Madrid. The England international says that the club’s fans have been very welcoming. The full-back has also promised that he wants to do well for his new club.
He added: “I’m extremely proud to be here and willing to give it my all.
“The supporters have been incredible. They’ve been so nice to me and welcomed me with open arms.
“I’ll do my best for the shirt.”
After finishing second in the league last season, Atletico Madrid have been busy this summer. Apart from signing Kieran Trippier, they’ve also secured the services of Joao Felix and Hector Herrera.
And while the departure of Antoine Griezmann means that they’ve lost an important player, with the likes of Trippier, the club can hope for a great next season.
